Letter to a 16 year old me
2 years ago • NotesHey you,
I’m just going to go straight to the point just the way you like it. So you’re 16 now eh?
By this time you have started smoking and the cigarette price is around RM3.60 . You also have not been to school for over 40 days and by end of the year your attendance will be 140ish days out of 200ish school days. Good times, good times!
I know that life has been very very very hard on you and it will get better and the day you turned 30, life is exactly how’d dreamed it will be. I promise you. You will not end up like what Cikgu Stanum said “Beds, you will end up being a bum with no future, no education, no discipline, no job, and you would probably get yourself pregnant by your 17th birthday!”. You will do well in your SPM, I know at this point is it so hard to believe as you flunk every single subject in the past year and forge mom’s signature on your report card. You will have Degree and you paid for your education yourself.
I can’t ask you to stop crying yourself to sleep, but what I can say is what is happening is not your fault and somewhere after your 18th birthday you will know why. *Hugs* STAY STRONG! Please stop being rude to mom!!! Try to lessen yelling at mom and telling her how you wish she wasn’t your mother . She is having it as bad as you do. Every day in my life today I beg forgiveness from mom. It has been awhile since I last spoken to dad.
I feel very sad to tell you this but I must; the next few years will be the worst years in your life. Good news is you will master the skill of picking yourself up and dusting yourself off and you’ll be fearless!
You’ll have a career, your own office and your own car (soon your own condo!) You think I’m bullshitting you right?
All I wish to do is to console you and I hope I did a good job. So let me stop here and not tell you what will happen in your life, suffice to say there will be great things in your future, trust me. Here is a ten things from me to you :
1. Life is going to throw you lemons… by the truckload. Make lemonade, brand them and sell them!
2. Do not give to beggars but tip generously! It takes a lot to stand on your feet for more than 8 hrs. Sitting at the sidewalk looking sad is easy.
3. Be kind to those who serve you food. (see above)
4. The conditions will never be perfect use what has been given and make it work. MAKE IT WORK!
5. Visit an orphanage
6. Watch the discovery channel. Forgo the sitcoms – fake situations with super fake people. You don’t need that, it will give you unrealistic expectations of life.
7. Learn to give a damn once in a while, that will make you human.
8. Only say sorry and thanks when you mean it.
9. Don’t do the same mistakes your dad did.
10. Trust your instincts. This will save your butt many many times!
Today and every single day of my life I bersyukur of what had happened in our life. Without you being you and I won’t be who I am today.
I will forever love you,
Me.
p/s: Do you happen to remember where did you put the Enid Blyton books? I cannot find em.. please write to me back if you do.
